Democracy Support Fund
The Democracy Support Fund is a charity and support fund established in 2020. Its objective is to support democratic reforms, efforts to ensure respect for human rights, assist political and civil society actors seeking democratic change, promote political dialogue and representation, and the development of independent media in the European Union's Eastern Neighbourhood area.
The Foundation supports democracy-building activities in response to specific needs in Eastern European countries. The Fund responds to short- and medium-term challenges, but also contributes to the development of sustainable democracy. The Fund supports organizations and activities that have limited access to funding from traditional international donors and specializes in providing discreet support for sensitive activities.
Civic initiatives
The Fund promotes innovative forms of civic engagement aimed at bringing about change in Eastern European societies.
Among other activities, it supports the involvement of citizens and civil society organizations in political processes, including the creation of political platforms, as well as the activities of independent trade unions.
Human Rights
The Fund provides support to Human Rights defenders working in situations where Human Rights violations occur. It also supports activities aimed at helping victims of repression and their family members.
Particular attention is paid to supporting Human Rights lawyers, Human Rights campaigners, public education on Human Rights, research, and monitoring.
Independent media
The Fund supports various independent media activities – national and regional media outlets operating in repressive environments, bloggers, digital platforms, information dissemination on social networks, and other means that promote independent and high-quality communication and public access to alternative sources of information.
Fight against corruption
The Fund supports initiatives aimed at combating corruption and increasing government accountability, as well as those that help expose corrupt practices. The foundation provides support for investigative journalism.
Youth participation
The Fund finances innovative activities that promote civic and social engagement among young people, empowering them to become leaders in their communities and, later, in their countries.
Support to democracy through art and research
The Foundation contributes to the promotion of cultural and research activities and initiatives through artistic expression and research that promote respect for human rights, democratic values, and freedom of expression.
